The Iridium 9602N SBD transceiver, designed to be integrated into a wireless data application with other host system hardware and software, provides a complete solution for a specific application or vertical market. The Iridium 9602 is ideal for IoT solutions, including tracking of maritime vessels, equipment monitoring, and automatic vehicle location.
This product is only available for certified Iridium Value Added Manufacturers (VAM’s). If you are not an Iridium VAM please consider the Iridium Edge instead.

The small size, low-cost and ease of integration make the Iridium 9602N ideal for Machine-to-Machine (M2M) solutions such as automatic vehicle location, asset monitoring, marine and personal tracking applications.

The Iridium 9602N is designed to exclusively support Iridium’s Short Burst Data Service. Authorized Iridium partners can create high value vertical market solutions using the combination of the Iridium 9602N and SBD Service that include: low latency service, small transceiver, small antenna, and global coverage.

How It Works
The Iridium 9602N is a single-board core transceiver provided as a ‘black box,’ with all device interfaces provided by a single multi-pin interface connector and antenna connectors. The product only provides the core transceiver. All other end user Field Application functions such as GPS, microprocessor-based logic control, digital and analog inputs, digital and analog input/output, power supply and antenna must be provided by the solution developer.
The device interface consists of a serial interface, DC power input, network available output and power on/off control line. The Iridium 9602N neither incorporates nor requires a SIM card.
The Iridium 9602N complies with the standards for Radio Emissions Compliance, Electromagnetic Compatibility, and AC Safety in the United States, European Union and Canada, for host systems that provide safe connections to power supply and external antenna or cable distribution system.

SBD Mailbox Check
Mailbox check is charged when the device sends a 0 byte message to check if there is a message queued at the gateway. These messages are free as long as there is a message queued at the gateway. If the gateway does not have a message queued, there is a $0.05 charge for each check.
SBD Registration
Each device can register on the network once a month. Additional registration events are charged at $0.05 each.
